03/07/2001 -- i took a trip over to easton, maryland, and snapped some photos on the way back. here's the town dock restaurant at saint michael's. dan and i used to love to come down here to eat and look at the harbor. |
the harbor. |
poor seagulls. they were all napping until i walked out on the dock and woke them. |
off they go. |
looking out toward the maritime museum. |
if it weren't so blurry, you'd be able to tell that this is the crab claw restaurant. |
looking back at the town dock and the rocking saint mary's church. |
on the way back, i stopped on the eastern side of the bay bridge to get some photos of it. it's actually two bridges which span the 4.35 miles at this narrow point of the chesapeake bay. |
here's an arial shot i snagged from someplace on the web so you can get an idea of what we're talking about. they close down the eastbound bridge for one day every year and let people walk across it. dan and i did that one year and i have some (physical) photos. if i ever get a scanner, maybe i'll scan them in. |
over there is annapolis, though you wouldn't be able to tell even if i had a good camera. |
someone's yacht moored in front of... |
hemingway's! a good seafood restaurant with a great view of the bay and the bridges. |
it wasn't really this dark there. |
there's lots of construction going on at the marina; i don't remember it being this big last time i was here. |
at first, i thought this was someone's personal yacht. i was relieved to get closer and see that the first deck was a dining room with tables being set for a cruise. |
on the road again, headed for the bridge. |
it gets closer. |
up and away! |
looking over at a section of the other bridge. |
coming up to the towers. |
and there they are. |
it's 186 feet down, so i was sort of paying attention to my driving while blindly snapping this photo. sorry about that. |
coming to the end of the suspension section. |
annapolis. |
starting the descent into the western shore. |
another attempt to get a shot of annapolis. where did it go? |
oh, there it is. |
down, down, down. |
sandy point state park. the annual swim across the bay starts from there. |
another little bridge on route 50 over the severn river. |
looking up the river. i used to go sailing up there. |
looking down toward annapolis. i was sure that all i got was a photo of the side of the truck, but i got the bridge i wanted (off in the distance). annapolitans were furious when this new tall bridge replaced the low drawbridge that was there before. i haven't been down that way since it went up to see if it really ruins that great view of the city that you get (or maybe used to get) coming in from the east. |
looking up the river again. |
took another shot just in case that other one was blocked by the truck. |
on the way back to baltimore, i realized too late that i should try to get a shot of the renaissance festival. there's a little bit of it, anyway, at the edge of the trees. a couple of guys i went to school with used to play guitar there every summer, but i still haven't been to it. |
