a couple of years ago, i heard a story on npr about people
involved with a "voluntary simplicity movement". the goals they'd set
for themselves -- slowing down, cleaning out all the physical and mental
clutter, taking the time to be a better friend and neighbor -- appealed
to me. i poked around yahoo!, and found the simple living network. (yahoo!
now has a whole section
on simplicity; hopefully, i'll find time to look through it all.) i
looked through their collection of books, and decided to buy simplify your
life (100 ways to slow down & enjoy the things that
really matter) by elaine st. james. i found a lot of practical
advice in it which i began applying to my own life. i've since gone on
to read other books on the subject, and i'd like to use this space to
relate some of my experiences and thoughts about my efforts at
uncluttering.
